The Wilmington Aquatic Center (WAC) will be a year-round facility featuring indoor and outdoor 50-meter competition pools, a 25-yard warm water lap and programming pool, and deep dive well. The Center also will include community meeting rooms, a “dry land” training area, and support facilities. The Aquatic Center addresses a long-standing need in Eastern North Carolina to increase access to swimming in the region. The WAC will be open to the public allowing people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to enjoy the water in a safe environment throughout the year, contribute to the health and fitness of all members of the community, and be a social and economic benefit to the area.

BENEFITS

An important benefit of the WAC is to provide New Hanover and surrounding counties with accessible swim lessons to help reduce tragic and preventable drownings, particularly in minority communities.

The WAC will be capable of hosting regional and national swim competitions, bringing significant tourism revenue and economic opportunities to Wilmington and surrounding areas. Additionally, the Center will be fully accessible to individuals with disabilities and offer recreational pools and a splash pad, promoting exercise and strengthening community bonds.

LOCATION – 17 Acres in Wilmington, NC has been secured for the WAC.

FUNDING – The WAC is a 501(c)(3) organization and currently is pursuing funds.
